ASVAB STUDY RESOURCE

ASVAB Math Tips

Improve ASVAB math preparation with repeatable methods for rates, percentages, ratios, equations, geometry and word problems.

Use this guide as a study framework, then apply it with original practice questions and targeted review.

Translate words into a relationship

In Arithmetic Reasoning, identify what is known, what is asked and which relationship connects them before doing arithmetic.

Know distance, rate and time

Use distance = rate × time. If you know two quantities, isolate the third instead of guessing.

Break percentage problems into two steps

Find the percentage amount first, then add or subtract it from the original value depending on the question.

Keep algebra clean

Undo operations in reverse order and do the same thing to both sides. Write one transformation per line when the problem is easy to misread.

Memorize core geometry formulas

Area, perimeter and volume formulas should be available quickly, but always check units and which dimensions are actually given.

Next step: Use the Free Practice Center to apply the method, or explore ASVAB Score Coach for the diagnostic-to-Premium study system.
